Val Kilmer had family by his side in his final public appearance five years before his death.
The actor, who succumbed to pneumonia at age 65 on Tuesday, was in the spotlight for the last time at the annual Thespians Go Hollywood Gala at Avalon Hollywood on Nov. 18, 2019.
Kilmer was joined by his daughter Mercedes, 33, and they posed for pictures together on the red carpet.

The “Batman Forever” star wore a black blazer with a yellow button-up shirt and a pair of burgundy jeans. He also rocked several colorful necklaces that were different sizes.
Mercedes, meanwhile, had on a black dress and gold open-toed heels.
Kilmer had Mercedes and son Jack, 29, with his ex-wife, British actress Joanne Whalley. The former couple were married from 1988 to 1995.
Both of Kilmer’s kids are actors. Mercedes co-starred with her dad in the 2020 film “Paydirt.” Jack has starred in films like “The Stanford Prison Experiment,” “Woodshock,” “Palo Alto” and “Lord of Chaos.” He also narrated his dad’s 2021 documentary “Val.”
Mercedes confirmed to the New York Times Tuesday that Kilmer pased away at his Los Angeles home.
The movie star was diagnosed with throat cancer, which required two tracheotomies, and was later declared cancer-free.

In 2020, Mercedes told People that Kilmer’s health battle actually brought them closer.

“The health challenges have been just that, challenging, but so many good things have come out of it,” Mercedes said. “We all spend so much time together. Even just getting to meet all my dad’s friends from before I was born — there are so many beautiful things that happen when you need help from people.”
Kilmer told the outlet of his family, “They really have done everything to make my health as usual.”
In his final Instagram post shared weeks before his death, Kilmer rocked a Batman mask and quipped, “It’s been a while.”
Artist David Choe, who sat near the actor in the video, could be heard complimenting how “great” Kilmer looked in his mask.
Kilmer starred in Joel Schumacher’s 1995 Batman movie after Michael Keaton had dropped out. The film, which also starred Tommy Lee Jones, Jim Carrey, Chris O’Donnell and Nicole Kidman, made over $336 million at the worldwide box office.
Kilmer was also famous for playing Tom “Iceman” Kazansky in 1986’s “Top Gun” alongside Tom Cruise. He reprised the role for the 2022 sequel “Top Gun: Maverick.”
